Yesterday afternoon I spotted a pair of birds making a nest. It was in a cute, but potentially dangerous spot: a flower pot on my parents' outdoor deck table. It seemed like a place where their eggs might get stolen, but they did not seem to care, and neither did my wife-- who saw it [...]

Looks Like Colombia Won’t Be Electing a Green Party President After All
Just a few weeks ago it was considered quite likely that Colombia would elect the world's first "Green Party" president. Now that probability has decreased considerably.
Nickelodeon’s “Go Diego Go!” Takes on an Oil Spill
I was happy to see that Go Diego Go! had decided to bring up the issue of how animals are threatened by oil spills. But I also thought it was odd how the show made cleaning up a spill seem so easy. Is this the right message to send kids?
Why You Should Watch The Cove
In some cases it is undoubtedly true that "ignorance is bliss." We all must pick our battles in life if only to maintain our sanity. In other cases though, there are simple, easy things we can do that will profoundly better our world-- and this is why you should watch The Cove, an exciting, emotional documentary that suggests that we really have to do very little to keep over 20,000 dolphins from being pointlessly slaughtered each year in Japan.

What the heck is the William Zabka Principle you ask? Here's how Mark Murray explains it.
Peter Pan Peanut Butter Greenwashing with “Earth-Friendly Jar”
I recently bought some Peter Pan peanut butter. Being the environmental nerd that I am, I was quick to notice the brand’s new label. Rather than describing their new jar as something that didn’t sound quite as good like “eco-friendlier,” they just went ahead and described their new jars as “earth-friendly.”
